PREVIEW | Tennis Plays Southeastern to Open 2025

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team opens 2025 with a matchup against Southeastern Louisiana University.
 
"We are excited about getting our season started," LSUA Head Women's Tennis Coach Melinda Descant said. "We are very young this year, but the girls have a lot of natural talent and I know they will all develop into amazing players."
 
First serve is scheduled for noon on Sunday, January 26.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN
SLU finished 2024 with a 49-56 record in duals.
 
Bente Bierma led the Lions with nine victories, she recorded a 9-8 dual record. Taisia Bolsova tallied a 7-4 record, while Kate Oborina was the final player above .500 with an 8-5 record.
 
Bierma spent the majority of the season in the fourth spot, posting a 6-2 record as the No. 4. Bolsova spent the majority of last year at the six-spot, finishing the year at 5-2 there. Oborina made her way through the middle of the lineup, seeing multiple duals at at numbers 2-4. She finished 3-2 at No. 2 and 4-3 at No. 3.
 
FALL RECAP
The Generals had a strong fall showing, including multiple freshmen recording their first collegiate victories.
 
Gianna Panaggio recorded her first victory at the ITA NAIA Gulf Regional Championship in New Orleans. The Florida native defeated Texas A&M-Texarkana's Adrianna Guangko (6-0, 6-2).  Kanu Rajawat's first collegiate win also came at the ITA's. She took down LSU Shreveport's Lidia Gomez (6-2, 6-3). Nahia Echaide's first collegiate victory came in the same tournament over Dillard's Weichio Chen (6-2, 6-3).
 
Returning for the Generals this season are senior Belen Blasco, junior Joline Roesch, and sophomores Marthe Chopin, Lucie Ivanova, and Carla Serrano Gil. Freshman Ekaterina Amosova joins the squad from St. Petersburg, Russia, while Isabella Stuurman joins the Generals Arnhem, The Netherlands.
