PREVIEW | #7 Women's Tennis Faces #10 Marian in NAIA Second Round Action

MOBILE, AL – The seven-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team takes on ten-seeded Marian University (Ind.) in the second round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.

THE GENERALS
LSUA enters the NAIA National Championship with a 10-5 record. They received a first-round bye.
 
LSUA currently has four players ranked in the latest ITA NAIA Singles Rankings with Nahia Echaide at No. 12, Isabella Stuurman at No. 17, Ekaterina Orlova at No. 39, and Lucie Ivanova at No. 47. In doubles, Ivanova and Echaide are ranked No. 35. Esthella Valentina Gonzalez Saiza and Stuurman are ranked No. 49 in doubles.
 
The Generals defeated Marian (Ind.) earlier this season, 4-0, in Savannah, Ga. Ivanova and Sturrman recorded a 6-4 win over Michelle Irigoyen and Jimena Rivera Flores in No. 2 doubles. Orlova and Gonzalez Saiza also notched a 6-4 victory in No. 3 doubles over Ana Barbosa and Liliane Alinquant to capture the doubles point.
 
In singles, Stuurman won 6-4, 6-2 over Ana Lopez Torres at No. 2 singles, her win was the clinching victory for the Generals. Ivanova won in No. 3 singles over Irigoyen, 6-2, 6-3. Joline Roesch recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Barbosa in No. 4 singles.
 
SCOUTING MARIAN (IND.)
Marian advanced to the NAIA Second Round with a 4-0 win over No. 23 William Woods University.

Liliane Alinquant and Ana Barbosa Fernandez opened up the match with a hard-fought 6-3 win at No. 3 to gain the high ground in doubles. Yasmin Imamniyazova and Ana Lopez Torres quickly followed up with a 6-2 win at No. 1, taking the doubles point. Michelle Irigoyen and Jimena Rivera Flores went unfinished at No. 2 but held the 5-3 lead over the Owls. 

Marian continued to extend their lead with Paloma Caceres Villalba quickly firing off a 6-0 and 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Irigoyen quickly followed up with a 6-1 and 6-0 win as well at No. 3. Shortly after, Alinquant was able to fire off a 6-1 and 6-2 win at No. 5, earning the clinch point and advancing the Knights to tomorrow's matchup.

With the match finishing in a clinch, Barbosa Fernandez went unfinished at No. 4, holding the 6-2 and 3-1 lead. Lopez Torres went unfinished as well, but held the 6-1 and 3-3 lead at No. 2, while Imamniyazova put up a tough fight, holding onto the 6-6 tie at No. 1.
