PREVIEW | Softball Hosts Eagles, Travels to Southwest (N.M.)

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team hosts the United States Sports Academy on Wednesday before hitting the road to New Mexico to face the University of the Southwest (N.M.).
 
"Officially our first home game," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We couldn't be more excited to take the field. We're facing a highly-competitive USSA team, a gritty group that's well ahead of schedule for a first-year program. What Coach Morgan has accomplished in just one year is truly remarkable. We are ready to get back out there and play LSUA softball."
 
The Generals are coming off a 3-1 showing at the Gulf Shores Invitational. Kaetlyn Dunbar and Haley Primrose earned RRAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors. Dunbar drove in five runs across four games at the Gulf Shores Invitational. She went 9-for-13 at the plate and swiped four bases. Dunbar was a perfect 4-for-4 against Cambellsville with two runs batted in. She laced a triple and drove in a pair against College of Saint Mary (Neb.). Dunbar currently ranks third in the RRAC with an average of .509. Primrose made three appearances and posted a record of 2-1 with 12 strikeouts at the Gulf Shores Invitational. She pitched a four-hitter in the Generals' win against Campbellsville and allowed just two hits and no earned runs against the University of Mobile. Primrose leads the RRAC with 10 wins and is second in ERA (2.10) and strikeouts (72).
 
SCOUTING US SPORTS ACADEMY
The Eagles are 5-12 on the season and 0-2 when playing on the road.
 
As a team, USSA is slashing .272/.337/.371. Heather Maxwell leads the charge with an average of .438. She has an OBP of .525 and a slugging percentage of .750. Maxwell has recorded one homerun, two doubles, five triples, driven in 12 runs, and scored 13. She has drawn 10 walks and struck out just once on the season. Maxwell is 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts. Behind her, Sydney Taylor and Caitlin Tilton come in at .366 and .333, respectively.

In the circle, the Eagles have posted a team ERA of 4.77 with an opposing batting average against of .311. Ryleigh Merritt has tossed a team-high 44.0 innings. She is 2-5 through eight starts with nine total appearances. Merritt holds an ERA of 4.93 with 22 strikeouts and an opposing average against of .288. Dakota Edwards has made 11 appearances, three starts, and has a record of 1-3. She has an ERA of 3.90, 11 strikeouts, and an opposing average against of .320.
 
The Generals are 1-0 all-time against USSA. They picked up a 9-3 victory over the Eagles at the Generals Showdown in February.
 
First Pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 12, at Generals Softball Field.

SCOUTING SOUTHWEST (N.M.)
The Mustangs enter the week with a record of 4-18 overall and an 0-2 mark in Red River Athletic Conference play. They have lost six straight games and are 4-6 when playing at home.
 
Southwest (N.M.) is slashing .211/.279/.295 as a team. They have hit two homeruns and scored 61 runs. Kilee Raulston leads the Mustangs with an average of .294. She has driven in 15 runs and scored 11, while going 4-for-4 in stolen bases. Raulston has an on-base percentage of .321 and a slugging percentage of .451. Hannah Campos leads the Mustangs with one home run and eight runs batted in.
 
In the circle, USW has a team ERA of 9.85 and a WHIP of 2.09. Ryleigh Ashford and Alexis Belen have handled the majority of the innings, throwing 50.0 and 50.2 respectively. Ashford is 1-7 on the year in 12 appearances. She has thrown one shutout. Ashford has an ERA of 8.64 and a WHIP of 1.92. She has 26 strikeouts and opposing hitters have posted an average of .342 against her. Belen has an 0-8 record with an ERA of 10.48 and a WHIP of 2.03. Opposing hitters are hitting .351 against her.
 
The Generals are 11-1 all-time against the Mustangs. They have won the last four games and are 2-0 when playing in New Mexico.
 
First pitch is scheduled for noon MT on Saturday, March 15.
