PREVIEW | No. 9 Softball Hosts DI Southern Before Road Games at Texas College

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 9 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team hosts NCAA Division I Southern University before travelling to Texas College in Red River Athletic Conference play.

QUOTING COACH PARTRIDGE
"We have a great week of softball ahead of us," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We have D1 Southern coming to us on Tuesday and we're looking forward to a great matchup that will be a strong test for us. Anytime we can play up in competition, it's exciting to see where we stand and Tuesday will be exactly that.
 
Lord willing, the rain holds off, and get another conference series in on Friday with Texas College. To be where we want to be at the end of the year, every series and every game matters. It's going to e a fun week of LSUA softball."
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Generals (30-2, 14-0) went 6-0 in RRAC play last week with doubleheader sweeps over Xavier (La.), the University of Houston-Victoria, and Huston-Tillotson University.
 
Kaetlyn Dunbar and Haley Primrose were named RRAC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Dunbar earned her second RRAC Softball Player of the Week selection. She clubbed a pair of big flies and drove in 11 runs. Six of those runs came in game one against the University of Houston-Victoria in a 9-4 win. All six came in back-to-back innings with a three-run shot in the second and a bases-clearing double in the third. Dunbar's six RBIs was the third most in a single game in LSUA history. She finished the week 10-for-19 at the plated with 10 runs scored. She is currently second in the RRAC in batting average (.475) and RBIs (40).
 
Primrose collected her third RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week award. She went 2-0 on the week with a pair of saves. Primrose tossed a complete game against Xavier (La.) and did not allow an earned run. She then tossed a second complete game against UHV, alongside relief appearances against both teams. Primrose finished the week with 17 strikeouts over 16.2 innings of work. She leads the RRAC with 17 wins and 123 strikeouts.
 
LSUA reached 30 wins with their win in game two of a sweep over HTU. They eclipsed the 2014 and 2015 marks of 33 games.
 
Julia Kwakernaak hit her 10th homerun of the season against in game one against HTU. She is now seventh in the NAIA in homeruns.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
The Jaguars enter the week with a record of 12-15, including a 4-5 record in SWAC. They are 2-6 when playing away from home.
 
As a team, Southern is hitting .229 with an on-base percentage of .327 and a slugging percentage of .336. Alana Mark leads the Jags with an average of .338 and an OBP of .381. She has driven in 14 and hit eight doubles. Katiana Maldonado has a team-high 10 stolen bases. The Jags are 50-for-61 as a team in stolen bases.
 
In the circle, the Jags have an ERA of 6.27. Miranda Roldan leads Southern with 14 appearances and eight starts. She has a record of 4-3 with an ERA of 3.60. Roldan has recorded 39 strikeouts and has an opposing average against .262. Jordynn Jennings has made seven starts and 10 appearances. She is 3-4 with an ERA of 3.28.
 
The Generals and Jags split a doubleheader last year.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS COLLEGE
Texas College is 0-16 on the season with all game coming in RRAC play.
 
Andrea Vasquez leads TC's offense with an average of .342. She has an on-base percentage of .419 and is slugging .474. She leads the Lady Steers with six runs batted in. Hailey Hernandez has hit a pair of homeruns and driven in five.
 
Chelsea Ziizzo has made five starts and seven appearances in the circle. She has a record of 0-5 and an ERA of 10.61.
